Saving the Planet with Indigenous Knowledge

Red Alert! by Daniel R. Wildcat

Our climate emergency (the author calls it "global burning") is becoming impossible to ignore, and it is already too late to avert some catastrophic effects in 2014, and yet there is much to do and important reasons to do it.

This book is an argument for important principles to be learned from indigenous peoples: "American Indian and Alaskan Native wisdom is a cooperative construction built on generations of attentive interaction between humans and the diversity of life found in the unique ecosystems and environments we call home.

What the world needs today is a good dose of indigenous realism, says Native American scholar Daniel Wildcat in this thoughtful, forward-looking treatise.

EveryTrail (NatGeoMaps) OSM Derivative Database - Derivation Methodology
https://support.alltrails.com/support/solutions/articles/236386-osm-derivative-database-derivation-methodology

At AllTrails.com, we have derived trail segments from OpenStreetMap data and have stored them in a separate derived database, used in the creation of our AllTrails Map Layer TileSet and our custom map creation tool.

This document makes publicly available the method of making the alterations to the original OSM "Database," as required of the ODBL license in section 4.6.b.
========================

The Open Definition gives full details on the requirements for ‘open’ data and content. Open data are the building blocks of open knowledge. Open knowledge is what open data becomes when it’s useful, usable and used. https://okfn.org/opendata/

The key features of openness are:

Availability and access: the data must be available as a whole and at no more than a reasonable reproduction cost, preferably by downloading over the internet. The data must also be available in a convenient and modifiable form.

Reuse and redistribution: the data must be provided under terms that permit reuse and redistribution including the intermixing with other datasets. The data must be machine-readable.

Universal participation: everyone must be able to use, reuse and redistribute — there should be no discrimination against fields of endeavour or against persons or groups. For example, ‘non-commercial’ restrictions that would prevent ‘commercial’ use, or restrictions of use for certain purposes (e.g. only in education), are not allowed.
